Between the ardas and the karah prashad the hall relaxes almost audibly, and we work the rows at that point, gathering congratulations, embraces and the relief on both sets of parents. When the palla is placed in the groom's hands and its other end given to the bride, we frame the cloth, the hands and the faces of the parents watching the moment that joins you. Rumalla covering the Guru Granth Sahib, the flowers around the palki sahib, the canopy overhead; these frames set the scene in an album and are taken before the hall fills.

Phulkari draped over the bride's head at the doli catches the light beautifully, and we position ourselves so the fabric, the tears and the family behind her all sit in one frame. The jago is unlike anything else, and we photograph the decorated pot carried on the head, the sticks banging on doors and the aunties dancing the night loud and late. Coins thrown behind the bride as she leaves, rice scattered over her shoulder, the brother steadying her at the car; the doli is made of small actions and we photograph each of them.

Yes, that is simply how we shoot the ceremony. The pictures stay warm and honest to the moment. We reserve any added lighting for the evening celebration. How do you photograph the baraat?+

We shoot it from the thick of the action. The baraat is nothing but energy, all drumming and dancing and the groom leading the way, so we move with the procession instead of standing back. As the families dance towards the Wembley gurdwara we photograph the build-up, then turn to the bride's family poised to receive you. It is chaos in the best sense.
