We stay a step back for the doli, photographing the farewell without crowding it, so the weight of leaving home is held with the tenderness it deserves. Surma applied by an elder before the sehra is tied takes seconds, and we stay tight on the groom's face for it, because the tenderness in that gesture is easy to miss entirely. During the jago we move with the procession, photographing the boliyan being sung, the doors knocked on and the neighbourhood woken up in the best possible way.

The gana is tied, the vatna is rubbed in and the singing starts, and we are already working before anyone thinks to look at the camera. Pinning the chunni takes three people and ten minutes, and we photograph the whole negotiation rather than only the finished result, since the fussing is where the affection shows.
Golden hour rarely lines up with a Sikh wedding schedule, so we take the light when it comes, often grabbing ten minutes outside between the langar and the drive to the reception. Langar follows the ceremony, and we cover the shared meal because the sewa and the full hall say as much about the day as the ceremony itself.
