Kaushik Bathia, photographing weddings since he founded his studio in 2001, would cover your day himself, driving about four miles from Northwood to Northolt. Bhangra at the gates and the dhol outside are shot low and close, and then we step back into stillness at the door. In the darbar hall we would cover the kirtan, the sikhia given to the couple, all four laavan and the closing ardas. Outside the darbar hall we would photograph the family groups and, at the close of the day, the doli, and Islip Manor Park, about five minutes' walk from Northolt station, has flower beds and old trees for a quiet portrait in between. The Great Barn at the Manor Farm heritage site in Ruislip, north-west of Northolt, takes up to 200 guests for a reception, and wherever the evening is held we aim for pictures the family will still value years from now. A second photographer for the busiest events, a hand-finished album, or a pre-wedding shoot at Belvue and Northolt Manor, a Local Nature Reserve on the site of a 14th-century moated manor, can all be added. Northolt is close to the studio, so travel there is not charged, and coverage starts from £750.

Milni comes early, outdoors, under whatever weather Ealing has on offer, and consists of embraces between men introduced to one another moments beforehand. Stand back and you photograph a crowd. Step in and you have joined it. We hold the rim of the group at roughly shoulder height and travel alongside the line, which keeps faces readable and the order intact. What follows is louder and, oddly, simpler, since a baraat grants a camera open permission to be seen.
Position, not light, is the governing limitation once everyone is seated, and nobody is renegotiating it mid-ceremony. Four laavan get walked. A palla changes hands. Every usable frame must come out of the spot you committed to at the start, so choosing that spot badly leaves you with one angle for the entire ceremony. Concentration slackens later, which is where the quieter material lives: langar going out in shifts, an aunt rearranging trays nobody asked her to touch, a jago half the room forgets to watch.
