From the baraat to the muhurtham

One thing carries each family's week, and the thing is different every time. In one house the entire schedule leans on a baraat that turns up when it promised. Somewhere else nothing whatever may move a muhurtham by five minutes in either direction. Which kind of week yours is has to be settled first, since it dictates where our attention sits throughout, which parts get protected once time runs short, and which get surrendered without argument.

Then comes the technical problem, which is consistency between buildings. A daylight morning, a tungsten hall and an outdoor evening will not agree with each other unless somebody makes them, so white balance is fixed per event and the whole week is graded to one look after the final event closes. Otherwise the album reads as four photographers on four separate days, which is precisely what an album must never end up looking like.

How We Photograph Without Getting in the Way

Getting in the way is mostly a failure of anticipation. If you know what is coming, your feet are planted before it arrives and no guest has to walk round you. So we take the sequence of events beforehand, ask one relative to interpret it as things move, and work slightly ahead of the room.
