Four rounds, each preceded by a shabad, the couple moving clockwise at whatever pace the ragis choose rather than the timetable. What we watch is the palla. That cloth is the only physical connection between two people in the frame, and once it vanishes behind a shoulder the picture stops explaining itself. So the side that keeps it visible through every one of the laavan is the side we take, and then we stop moving.
The milni happens outdoors, often in a car park, in flat morning light, with garlands going over the heads of men who have not met before. It is the loudest twenty minutes anyone will have, and the easiest to leave half covered. Langar reverses that: rows on the floor, pictures built from hands and plates rather than faces. Then the doli, which asks for restraint rather than volume, and for a distance at which the family stops registering a lens.
