Richmond upon Thames is a riverside south-west London borough with royal parks. We travel throughout Greater London for gurdwara ceremonies, and Kingston upon Thames, Hounslow are all familiar to us. We photograph at gurdwaras, banqueting halls and marquees right across Greater London.

We arrive early for the gurdwara start, stay through the doli and keep pace with the reception. We blend candid storytelling with a handful of timeless portraits taken away from the bustle of the gurdwara. We are at ease with large, multi-day Sikh celebrations and intimate gurdwara ceremonies alike.

Much of our work takes us across Greater London; Richmond upon Thames, a riverside south-west London borough with royal parks, and the towns around it, including Kingston upon Thames, Hounslow, are very familiar to us. We also cover nearby Ruislip Manor and Ruislip. Venues we know well in and near Richmond upon Thames include York House, The Bingham Riverhouse and The Petersham Hotel.

When there is time for couple portraits, Richmond Park, with wide open grassland, ponds and ancient trees for outdoor sessions is a favourite, and Richmond Park, a Royal Park and National Nature Reserve home to herds of deer makes a memorable setting.

We are mindful of gurdwara etiquette throughout, never turning our back to the Guru Granth Sahib. The hukamnama, the reading taken after the laavan, closes the ceremony, and we capture it with respect. We photograph the milni, the morning meeting of the two families, with all of its warmth and garlands.

The mehndi, the jaggo and the maiyan each carry their own mood, and we photograph them all. The dhol and bhangra of the jaggo are pure joy, and we capture every bit of the energy. The doli, when the bride leaves her family home, is the most tender moment of the day.
