When karah parshad is brought round at the close, we photograph the cupped hands and the quiet contentment in the hall, the ceremony settling into celebration. The arrival at the gurdwara has its own quiet ceremony, and we photograph the shoes coming off, the heads being covered and the family gathering on the steps before going in. We position ourselves discreetly so we can follow every circuit without stepping in front of the granthi or the sangat, and we include the family members who steady you along the way.

What if you have never worked at our gurdwara before?+

Then we simply prepare with care. We get in touch with the gurdwara beforehand to understand its photography rules, and wherever possible we visit early or arrive well ahead on the day to walk the darbar hall, read the light and introduce ourselves to the sewadars.
