A business trading on a riverside or parkland address is selling that address as much as its own work, and the address earns nothing at all unless it genuinely appears in the pictures. That makes a commercial booking three jobs rather than one: the people, the working rooms, and the view out of them. Those three want different exposures, and the third is the one that goes wrong. A room facing water has an enormous bright rectangle in one wall, so the space is lit like a stage from a single side: anything within a couple of paces of the glass is blazing, anything further in falls away, and the ceiling fittings add a second colour on top. Expose for the people and the river outside turns to white paper; expose for the river and the room goes to silhouette. We bring a source strong enough to overrule both, put it on the side the window is not, and let the glass become background rather than the light on the face. Access is settled before any of that. Which door cases can come through, and which hour the room is genuinely free, decide more about the day than the equipment does. Pictures of work in progress come first of all, before a room has been tidied into a showroom and before anybody has thought better of the shirt they put on that morning.
