Steadying hands appear at every corner of the circuit, cousins and brothers guiding the bride round, and we frame the walk widely enough that those hands are never cropped out. After the ardas and the final hukamnama, the hall exhales, and we photograph the congratulations breaking out along the rows as you sit as a married couple for the first time.

The groom's side has its own jago and its own noise, and we can split our coverage across both houses so neither family's celebrations are missed. The maiyan is warm and wonderfully messy, and we photograph the vatna being applied, the singing of the women and the laughter as the turmeric paste finds every relative in the room. Late in the evening the formal wear loosens, the elders go home and the dance floor becomes something else entirely, and we stay for it, since the best frames often come after eleven.
