Sessions are brief and the animal sets a pace. Half an hour or a little beyond is what most dogs have in them before ears drop and it starts to show, so the still portrait happens early on, and anything wilder than that follows along behind it.
Bring your own treats, the ones that genuinely work rather than whatever we might guess at. The full set comes back edited, undignified frames included, since it is generally those that people print big.

In one word "AWESOME" We arranged a family photo shoot for six, four children and two adults.. the whole family was made to feel very comfortable (even allowing a change of clothes from smart to casual) and the children although apprehensive at first (being children) were literally in hysterics by the time we left... would definitely HIGHLY RECOMMEND and use again when everyones a little older...
I love his services, he was very very patient even though we got there late he still took his time capturing a very good family pictures. He also gave us time to satisfy our 6months old one in order to capture her great smile despite the fact that it was passed his closing hours. I would definitely recommend him as you won't be disappointed, you will love him.

Animals move fast, so the camera is ready for the sudden yawn, the tilt of the head and the moment the ears go up. Cats are nearly always photographed at home, because a cat taken into an unfamiliar room tends to spend the hour under a chair.
Two or more pets from one home can be photographed alone and together in one session, and a helper per animal makes the group picture much easier. Horses and ponies are photographed at their yard, ideally groomed and tacked up before we start rather than during.

- Royal Greenwich dog control rules. Under the Royal Borough of Greenwich's dog control rules, dogs must be on a lead on public highways and council-maintained housing land in town centres, are excluded from all enclosed outdoor children's play areas, and one person may have no more than four dogs with them at a time, including in parks and open spaces. 1
- Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site. Maritime Greenwich, which includes the Old Royal Naval College, the Queen's House, the Royal Observatory and the Cutty Sark, was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. 2
- Maryon Park in Charlton, a former quarry on the Maryon Wilson estate, is a hilly Green Flag woodland overlooking the Thames and was a filming location for Michelangelo Antonioni's 1966 film Blow-Up. 3

An older animal wants a short session on level ground, so in Greenwich we would keep to flat grass, such as the level heath of Blackheath north of the A2, and avoid anything involving a climb. Twenty minutes is often plenty, mostly still frames rather than movement, made low down so the picture meets them at eye level. Their own bed or favourite chair frequently makes a better portrait than anywhere outdoors.
No, though it decides where we go. An energetic dog wants space in Greenwich well away from roads before it will settle enough to be photographed, so a first ten minutes goes on simply letting it run while the camera stays down. After that it holds still for a second or two at a time, which is as much as a frame needs. Bring the good treats.

For a dog that runs, the avenues earn their keep. Out on open grass the line a dog takes is unguessable, and a lens hunting for something moving fast in an unpredictable direction mostly finds grass. Down a straight planted walk the animal can only really come at the camera or go away from it, one axis rather than two, giving a run that can be set up, focused for beforehand and repeated three or four times until it comes right. Slope is the second lever. A dog climbing runs slower, carries its head up and keeps its eyes level with the lens; the same dog descending is quicker, heavier at the front, watching the ground. So a run gets arranged uphill even when the light would be better facing the other way. Coat then decides where to stand rather than what to set. Something very dark on open grass under bright cloud reads as an outline, the eyes gone, and wants the shade of an avenue, where everything in the frame sits closer together. Pale or white wants the opposite, out from beneath the trees, since nothing then burns out against a dark canopy behind. One last point concerns wind off the river. Keep it arriving over your shoulder, and then a long coat and a pair of ears will blow towards the glass rather than sideways across a face.
