For Greenwich
A sitting is slow and mostly talk. We photograph people while they walk, sit down, or look at each other rather than at us, and put a few frames on a screen early so the direction gets settled between us instead of assumed. Children and dogs can be in it; a portrait need not mean one person by themselves.
Edited files land twice, at printing scale and again at screen scale, in colour, with monochrome alternatives on any frame that wants them. Retouching reaches skin and stray hair, then halts; faces keep their own shape.

What we offer
Portrait sittings throughout Greenwich, Blackheath, Deptford and Charlton, along the park avenues or inside at an address of your choosing.
Booked inside the two hours before sunset and worked uphill, so light lasts right to the end.
Print and screen files together, monochrome alternatives on frames that want them, delivered as one edited set.
Local and experienced
We plan the session in advance so the time is used well, but always leave room for the unhurried, unplanned moments. Actors are directed differently from everybody else. Instead of a smile you are given a thought to hold, because casting reads the eyes long before it reads the mouth.
Individual, couple and group portraits can all be arranged, either in a single session or across a few setups. Prints, frames, canvases and hand-finished albums are all available, so your portraits need not stay on a screen.

Good to know
Outdoors there is no backdrop as such, only what we walk to: the planted avenues when a dark surround suits a person, the open frontage when a brighter one does. We carry a single light for flat days and use it sparingly. Indoors it is plain cloth, grey or close to black, lit with two heads, for pictures meant to sit nowhere in particular. Say which you are after when booking.
Yes, gladly. A solo portrait session, in the studio or around Greenwich, is entirely focused on you. With gentle, unhurried direction, we help you look relaxed and flattering. Whether it is for a branding profile, a gift for someone, or simply for yourself, we make the time worthwhile.
Yes, and outdoors beats indoors in Greenwich for anything above about six people, since a dozen can stand in one line with nobody stranded behind a shoulder. Sloping ground helps more than you would expect. Agree a meeting spot beforehand, give everybody one instruction about tone rather than garment, and allow an hour. Expect wind on anything facing the water.
Not long at all, as we keep turnaround fast. Once the shoot is finished, we edit your images with care and send you a gallery to pick your favourites from. Prints, frames, canvases or albums you go on to order then arrive shortly after that. Landmarks we can work with near Greenwich include The Royal Observatory and the Prime Meridian line.
Either. The studio occupies The Broadway, 21 Joel St, Northwood HA6. Getting there from Greenwich means a planned journey, so most people would sooner we came to them, which we happily do. What a studio buys is controlled light, a blank surround, no wind and no forecast. Where the whole point is having Greenwich visible in a portrait, staying put makes better sense.
Serving Greenwich
Clients come to us from all over London, including Greenwich (Greater London). It sits close to Lewisham and Bexley, which we cover too. We can photograph at the studio or on location in Greenwich, whichever suits you best.
Greenwich is a riverside south-east London borough rich in maritime history and home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site around its historic town centre. Cutty Sark DLR station and Greenwich station connect the area, with the DLR and National Rail links to central London. Sessions on location near Greenwich often use Greenwich Park, with The Royal Observatory and the Prime Meridian line close at hand.
More in Greenwich
The same studio, experience and personal care apply to every service we offer in Greenwich. Explore the rest: We also cover portrait photography across London, including Croydon, Waltham Forest, Westminster, Enfield, Southwark and Barnet.
Greenwich Park is laid out in long tree-lined avenues, and which way a sitter turns along one of them does more to a picture than the choice of avenue does. Face across the planting and the canopy breaks the sky into fragments, so light lands on a face in hard patches that shift every time somebody takes a step. Turn instead to face along the walk and the clear strip of sky over the path behaves as one long narrow source, while the same trees now stand as dark walls either side, stopping stray light creeping in from where it is not wanted. That one turn settles more than any choice of lens. Height comes second, and belongs to the schedule rather than the shot list. Ground giving the panoramic view sits well above the water, and elevation buys minutes late on: upper slopes still hold sun once the frontage below has gone flat and blue. A late sitting is therefore ordered bottom to top, never the other way about. Clothing has to survive two backgrounds. Down beside the water the surround is bright, up under the avenues it is dark, and an outfit chosen for one fails the other. Anything at the extremes, chalk white or coal black, only works for half a sitting. A middle tone carrying some colour, rust, slate, plum, indigo, holds its shape against both. Should the sky shut down altogether, Northwood, HA6 has a lit room in it, though what comes out is a picture of a person rather than of a place.
