For Waltham Forest
A sitting starts by walking to whichever ground the light suits at that hour, and the first exposures happen while we settle it rather than afterwards, so no good light is ever spent purely on tests.
We show you a frame early, so the direction is agreed while daylight is still there to act on. Afterwards comes a set of finished photographs, cleaned only where something temporary needs removing, at one size for printing and a second for posting online. Nothing usable is held back.

What we offer
Individual and couple sittings at Lloyd Park, using the formal gardens in hard sun and the lawns when cloud covers.
Portraits across Leyton, Leytonstone and Chingford, with a Northwood room available when the sky rules the park out.
Backgrounds picked so nothing behind a shoulder competes with a face, and clothing settled well ahead of the day.
Twenty-five years behind the lens
Direction is given in small pieces, one instruction at a time, because a list of five adjustments at once is how a sitter ends up looking like a shop mannequin. We take a few safe, classic frames first, then relax into something more natural once you have found your feet.
Glasses wearers should bring the frames they actually wear rather than an old pair, since reflections are managed by moving the light rather than the glasses. Sessions are unhurried, with time built in for changes of look and a relaxed pace throughout.

Good to know
Yes. Waltham Forest is on the regular list, alongside Leyton, Leytonstone and Chingford. Most sittings run at Lloyd Park: the formal gardens while the sun is high and hard, the open lawns under cloud or towards the close of an afternoon. Should the sky rule out both, we photograph indoors in Northwood instead and the booking stands as it is.
Three things really. Pick clothes quieter than whatever is behind you: one calm mid-tone in front of the garden beds, and no green or bright white out on the lawns. Wear something on your feet you can cross grass in, because turf stays soft long after a made-up path has dried out. And say what the picture is for, since it changes the framing.
We work to a fast turnaround, so you are never left waiting long. Once the session is done, we carefully edit your images and send through your gallery to choose from. Any prints, frames, canvases or albums you order then follow shortly afterwards. Landmarks we can work with near Waltham Forest include The William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow, set in Lloyd Park.
Yes, and they are among the most rewarding sessions we offer in Waltham Forest and the studio. An individual portrait is entirely about you, guided with gentle direction so you look relaxed and flattering. For a branding profile, a gift or simply for yourself, we make every minute count.
Yes. Portfolio work is a speciality, and plenty of performers from Waltham Forest come to us for it. We shape a varied set of lighting styles and looks so your book has genuine range, and we guide you through expressions and poses with casting requirements always in mind.

Lloyd Park works as a portrait location because it is really two grounds with separate rules, and choosing between them is a decision about light rather than taste. The formal gardens are planted and enclosed, with clipped edges and standing structure, and that structure is what puts depth behind a sitter: a hedge set a few paces back falls out of focus as an even wall of green, and nothing in it pulls attention off a face. The open lawns offer none of that. Nothing stands over them, so on a clear afternoon the sun arrives more or less vertically and hollows the eyes while lighting the forehead brightest of all. Later on, those same lawns become the best ground in the park, because the light then comes across instead of down and the grass returns a little of it upward. Season alters the gardens far more than it alters the lawns. Through summer the beds are full and strongly coloured, and colour behind a person argues with the person; from autumn the beds are cut back to their outlines and the gardens photograph as line and shape, which suits a quiet portrait better than flowers ever do. Clothing follows from whichever half we end up using. In front of planting, wear one calm mid-tone and no busy pattern, so the sitter is the least complicated thing anywhere in view. On the lawns, avoid green, which sinks straight into the background, and avoid bright white, which will take an eye before the face gets a chance to.
