Documentary does not mean passive, so when the sindoor is about to be applied we are already at the right shoulder, close enough to hold the gesture. Warmth beats authority on a wedding day, so we ask rather than instruct, and families tend to give us more because of it. Kit stays small and quiet in sacred spaces, with no lighting stands crowding a darbar hall or a mandap and no shutter noise where it would carry.

For pre-wedding and couple portraits, we love spots such as Danson Park in Welling, with its large boating lake and open lawns, with Danson House, a Grade I listed Palladian mansion set within Danson Park close by for a striking backdrop.

The most sacred parts of the day are captured from a respectful distance with a quiet long lens. We photograph the seven steps of the saptapadi and the couple's first steps as a married pair. We are ready for the giving of the sindoor and the tying of the mangalsutra at a Hindu ceremony.

We capture the lively baraat as the groom arrives, with the dhol, the dancing and the milni. Where the nikah and walima fall on different days they are two separate occasions with two separate moods, and we treat neither as an afterthought. The mehndi evening is close and detailed, henna curling across the bride's hands while the room fills with song, and we photograph the artistry and the laughter alike.
