The gardens open straight off the High Street, so the walk in is short, which matters when one adult is pushing a pram and another is carrying a toddler who wants down.
We photograph the full group in the first fifteen minutes, while everyone is still willing, then break it into pairs. Grandparents get their own frames early rather than at the end, when the children have run out of goodwill and the light has usually turned.

Church House Gardens opens off the High Street, and for a family session that matters more than anything inside the gardens does. It means nobody is walked in from a distant car park before the photographs start; you park where you would park to go to the shops, and grandparents who would not manage a long approach on foot arrive with something still in reserve. It also means the session can finish where people already are, so a tired child is close to a chair and a drink rather than a walk back. Keep prams on the surfaced paths. Ground beside a lake or a river holds water long after the rest has drained, so the stretch nearest the Ravensbourne is where wheels stop being useful and somebody ends up carrying. The other decision is what not to attach to the session.
