Church House Gardens sits directly off Bromley High Street, and the useful part of it is the lake rather than the planting. Open water is a gap in the ground plan, so anything behind your subject is far enough back to fall out of focus without a long lens, and a sitting taken with the water behind separates cleanly where the same shot against a hedge would flatten. The river Ravensbourne runs nearby, and ground beside a river tends to hold damp air early in the day, which softens contrast for free. Season decides the rest. The planted ground and the water edge are two different backgrounds inside one park, which is usually enough for a single sitting without moving on to somewhere else entirely.
