An Islington family shoot paced to suit small children

An hour outdoors, slightly less indoors, with everybody together photographed at the top of the session and the loose, unposed half following it. Nobody is asked to hold still for longer than a small child will tolerate, which is not very long at all.
We bring nothing for a child to sit on or hold. It all comes from the family: a walk, a game you already play, one thing the youngest genuinely cares about. You get the full edited set, plus a print file for whichever picture ends up on a wall.

The honest answer is a plan rather than a claim. In Islington the plan is Highbury Fields for the group photograph, because a wide row of people needs ground lit evenly from end to end, then the quieter streets behind it for pairs and individuals, and the hour before sunset instead of the middle of the day. If the weather turns, we move to your address or to Northwood rather than losing the date.
Yes, and the head count matters mostly for where everyone stands. Ten or more people form a row several metres wide, which wants open ground rather than a street corner, so in Islington that means Highbury Fields. Tell us the number and the age of the youngest when you book. Everybody together gets photographed at the top of the session, then it breaks into smaller combinations.
A newborn session runs on feeding and sleeping rather than on a schedule, so it takes two to three hours with long pauses built in. We come to you in Islington, so nobody has to get a week-old baby into a car or onto a train. We bring our own light, so the room we use is whichever one is warmest, not whichever has the biggest window.

A family in Islington may well reach a session on foot or off a train, and that changes the shape of an hour more than the weather does. A pram, a bag and a grandparent moving at their own speed mean the walk in has already spent some of the youngest child's patience before a single frame exists, so we fix a meeting point at the edge of Highbury Fields rather than somewhere in the middle of it, and the photograph everybody actually came for, all of them together, gets made while the small ones are still curious. Width is the second consideration. A family of eight standing in a line is several metres across, and a line that wide wants ground lit evenly from one end to the other. Open turf does that. A street will not: one end of the group stands in a doorway, the middle in shade thrown by a frontage, the far end in full sun, and no single exposure holds all three. So the whole group goes on the open ground, and the pairs, two sisters, a parent with one child, are made afterwards against a wall or a railing where the light only has to behave across a metre. Children work in short bursts of three or four minutes with real gaps between them, gaps where nothing is asked of anybody. Northwood wins the booking outright in two cases: a baby too young to be cold, and a relative for whom crossing wet turf is the hard part rather than the photograph.
