Hackney and nearby
You get a call first to agree a gate to meet at, a time of day that misses naps, and what everybody is wearing, which we keep to a family of tones rather than matching outfits, because matching everybody reads as a uniform in the finished pictures.
On the day we photograph the arranged frames early and let the session loosen off after that. Everything usable gets edited, not just a chosen dozen, and the gallery arrives ready for printing and for sending round to relatives who could not come.

What we offer
Sessions built around a single fixed spot, so nobody spends the hour walking between locations.
Arranged group frames taken early, then an hour of the running about that children actually enjoy.
Northwood studio for babies, wet weeks and anyone who would rather be warm and sitting down.
Local and experienced
We give newborns and toddlers all the time they need, and never rush a session to fit a clock. We bring warmth and good humour to every session, so a houseful of children feels fun rather than fraught.
Prints, canvases, framed wall art and albums are designed around your favourite portraits from the session. Sessions can run at the natural-light studio on The Broadway in Northwood, at your home among your own things, or outdoors in a park you already use.

Good to know
There is no need. Toddlers from Hackney keep us on our toes, and we love that, so we never demand stillness or forced smiles. We play, we follow their lead, and the natural moments we capture are often the pictures parents adore most.
Yes, and late pregnancy is exactly why we come to Hackney instead of asking for the trip out to Northwood. Victoria Park suits it well: flat ground, short distances between one spot and the next, and somewhere to stop. The comfortable window is the last couple of months. Wear something fitted rather than loose, because loose fabric hides the shape the pictures exist to record.
Do just get in touch as soon as you can. Babies and toddlers have their off days, and sudden illness happens, so we would always prefer to move things than capture an unhappy child. Together we will settle on a fresh date that works for you. Hackney and neighbouring Dalston, Stoke Newington and Clapton are all covered.
Mostly, yes, and the park is the reason. Open lawns give children room to run without anything being set up, so most of a Hackney session gets photographed while something is genuinely happening. There will be a few arranged frames, because somebody always wants one with every face visible, but they are quick and they happen early while patience holds.
Usually about an hour, though rushing is never our style. With little babies and toddlers we leave plenty of room for feeding, sleeping and comforting, so no one becomes upset. It is your children who lead the timing here, not a stopwatch. For outdoor photographs in Hackney we would suggest Victoria Park, one of London's oldest public parks with lakes and open lawns.
Serving Hackney
Hackney is well within our travel area. It sits close to Islington and Tower Hamlets, which we cover too. We cover Hackney and the wider London area for family photography, on location or in the studio, with no local travel charge.
Hackney is a creative east London borough known for its independent shops, markets and a strong arts and music scene. Hackney Central and Hackney Downs stations link the borough via London Overground services. Sessions on location near Hackney often use Victoria Park, with The Hackney Empire close at hand.

The lakes at Victoria Park are the part of a family session that needs planning, not the part that sells it. Open water is the one edge nobody can supervise and photograph at the same time, so we keep the working area well back from it and use the lake as distance behind the group instead of a rail to lean on. Wind is the second argument for standing back. Air crossing open water is colder than air over the lawn, and cold is what finishes a family session early, not boredom. Grandparents stop cooperating once they are chilled, coats go back on over the clothes everybody carefully chose, and the pictures after that point are all coats. Open lawns also offer nothing to sit on except the ground, which turns out to be an advantage. Once everyone is down on the grass the adults arrive at child height, the ladder of heights that makes standing group pictures awkward disappears, and small children stop being handled and start being included. Rain the day before matters more than rain on the day. Wet lawn takes wheels badly, and it also rules out kneeling, which is the position half of a family session is photographed from. After a wet week we work off the harder ground and keep the grass for the running-about frames only. Northwood earns the booking outright in two situations: when the youngest is small enough that warmth and a clean floor beat scenery, and when the forecast is bad enough that everyone would spend the hour negotiating rather than being photographed.

How it works
Hackney is outside easy reach of our Northwood studio, so we bring the shoot to you. Weddings, events, team headshots, branding and product work are all photographed on location, with lighting brought in as needed. If you would rather use the studio you are very welcome.
