Geometry comes first here, ahead of anything to do with light. Where seating divides, the division settles which camera positions exist at all, and technique does not argue with it. A layout is therefore more useful to us than a lighting brief. Tell us where the signing happens, which direction the table looks, and how close that corner sits to the nearest window. The nikah, the mahr and the walima

A nikah is carried almost entirely in speech. Qubool answers ijab in words: no procession, no object crossing the room, nothing a shutter can chase. A photographer hunting for action during those minutes comes away with nothing. Reactions are the material, then. The witnesses either side, the parents at the back, the hands that tighten on a chair arm. Where the imam leads, that seat at the front sets ours, and the workable line of sight is rarely the one a videographer wants.

A mahr can pass as one sentence and a nod, which makes those minutes something you listen for rather than watch for, so we ask beforehand roughly where it falls. The only physical act is the signature, made at a table somebody else positioned. Later the walima behaves like any other dinner under artificial light: longer lenses from the edges, nothing pointed at anyone's eyes. Rukhsati ends it, quickly, usually out on the pavement. The mehndi sits days earlier and is photographed on entirely separate terms.

Can our parents order their own albums or prints?+

They can, and they order for themselves: same gallery, their own sequence, their own cover, their own invoice. That arrangement spares the couple having to broker four different opinions about a single photograph months after the event.

Can you capture the moment the mahr is agreed?+

Sometimes, provided we know roughly when to expect it. Often the exchange is quiet and carries no cue whatsoever, so what we undertake is attention on the faces around it rather than a staged version of the agreement.

Do you photograph interfaith or mixed-heritage Muslim weddings?+

Yes, and the real work there is diplomatic. Two families may hold different expectations about photographs, music and mixing, so what helps is one written running order that both sides have read before the week starts.

Will you come to our dholki celebration?+

If it is in the booking, yes. A dholki is close, loud and handheld, and what comes out of it makes the formal frames make sense afterwards. Tell us early, because a weeknight date needs arranging.

Can we book you for the nikah only?+

Yes. Many couples want the ceremony documented and nothing further, which counts as a proper booking and not a reduced one. A walima can be attached later, provided nobody else has taken that evening.
