Forest Gate is a diverse neighbourhood in the London Borough of Newham that borders the open green space of Wanstead Flats. Forest Gate station is managed and served by the Elizabeth line, around twelve minutes from Liverpool Street. When there is time for couple portraits, West Ham Park, the largest park in Newham is a favourite, and Wanstead Flats, the southernmost part of Epping Forest makes a memorable setting.

We are mindful of every family's customs at the nikah, Pakistani, Bengali, Arab or Turkish. From the ijab-e-qubool to the dua, the ceremony tells its own story, and we follow it closely. Said three times before the imam, the ijab-e-qubool carries all the weight of the marriage, and we are already in position when the very first word is spoken.

The reception and walima are the joyful finale, with speeches, family and dancing. The mehndi is a riot of colour and noise, henna drawn on the bride's hands while the music builds, and it often gives us the most joyful frames of the whole wedding. Long before the nikah, the sanchaq sees gifts and sweets carried between the two families, and we photograph the exchange with all the warmth and ceremony it carries.
