We work discreetly around the imam or qazi, never intruding on the ijab-e-qubool or the dua. We let the nikah unfold at its own pace and meet the rukhsati with a quiet, watchful eye. We photograph the nikah with warmth and respect, mindful of the meaning behind the mahr and the dua.

For portraits away from the celebration, Stanmore Country Park, known for its views across London works beautifully, and Bentley Priory, an 18th century estate that was the headquarters of RAF Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain adds a real sense of place.

At the heart of a Muslim wedding is the nikah, the marriage contract that joins the couple. The most solemn moments of the nikah are captured from a respectful distance with a quiet long lens. We know the order of the nikah by heart, so we are always in position for each moment.

The music and dancing of the mehndi are pure joy, and we capture every bit of the energy. The henna of the mehndi is intricate and detailed, and we photograph both the design and the laughter around it. The mehndi, the dholki and the walima each carry their own mood, and we photograph them all.
