The short answer
Your wedding photographer in Hackney, at a glance
An award winning, London based wedding photographer, Kaushik Bathia has spent more than twenty five years photographing weddings in Hackney and right across Greater London. Rather than shooting continuously and sorting later, we work in short bursts and think between them, which is why the gallery has shape instead of forty near-identical versions of the cake. Whatever your wedding looks like in Hackney, a church service, a register office, a country house, a barn or a hotel, and whatever your traditions, we photograph the whole day as it happens. Having photographed over a thousand weddings, we can usually tell within ten minutes of arriving whether the schedule will hold, and we adjust quietly rather than announcing a problem. You can add an engagement shoot, a second photographer and hand finished albums, and we are glad to travel across Greater London and beyond, so wherever your day is held it is well within reach.
Independent shops, markets and a strong arts and music scene make this east London borough a place where street texture is part of the story rather than a distraction from it. Hackney Town Hall and Shoreditch Town Hall both bring civic interiors that suit formal coverage, and both sit in streets worth stepping into between the ceremony and the meal. The Hackney Empire, a Grade II* listed Edwardian theatre, is the borough's landmark and a useful reference for anyone who wants something with period drama. Victoria Park, one of London's oldest public parks, has lakes and open lawns that give a clean, quiet counterweight after an hour of busy pavement. Hackney Central and Hackney Downs stations link everything by London Overground, and Dalston, Stoke Newington and Clapton are within a very short hop, so a portrait run rarely costs more than twenty minutes.

Licensing chooses the room, and licensing holds no opinion whatever about windows. You may therefore find yourself in a panelled space with one aspect, forty chairs and a fixed table. Treat that as a condition rather than a fault. A north-facing room at four o'clock in November poses a different exposure problem from that identical room in June, and the calendar settled it long before you did. Most of your attention is better spent either side of the legal minutes, where the room stops dictating and people behave normally again.
The other constraint is the clock on the door. Somebody else has the room after you, so a formal group list cannot be assembled by shouting on the day. Write it down the week before, appoint one caller per family, and the exercise roughly halves. Open lawns take a portrait run afterwards with very little walking, and Victoria Park supplies them. The civic pair: Shoreditch Town Hall, Hackney Town Hall.

No two Hackney weddings are the same
A morning for twelve people is not an abbreviated version of a full day. It is another commission altogether, paced differently, and nobody hides in a crowd, so every frame holds someone who knows they are in it. A church and then a hall splits the work into two lighting problems joined by a car journey. A single-building Saturday buries its difficulty in the afternoon lull, which lasts longer than anyone expects and yields the pictures nobody planned.
Speeches repay the reverse angle: the face listening is usually doing more than the face talking. A receiving line looks like a queue and photographs like a run of greetings, so we shoot portraits and let the line go. Two minutes of first dance means a moving subject, a dark room and whatever the DJ has decided about colour, so we set for the darkest part of it and let the rest ride.

Why choose us
Trusted with Hackney weddings since 2001
Since 2001 the method has barely altered. Arrive having already memorised how the day is meant to unfold, stay invisible through the parts that belong to other people, then work hard in the twenty minutes that are genuinely ours. Everything after that is editing, and editing is where impatience shows.

Good to know
Wedding photography in Hackney, frequently asked questions
Yes. Full resolution, no watermark, and sized so that you can print as large as a decent lab will accept. Nothing gets withheld at reduced quality in order to make some later upgrade look necessary.
Colour first, then skin, then nothing much else. We correct whatever mixed lighting a Hackney room has thrown at us and leave faces recognisable. Jaws do not get reshaped and lines that make somebody look like themselves stay put.
Twenty to forty minutes for a sensible list, and considerably longer where nobody wrote the list down beforehand. A camera is never the variable here. How fast the named people can be found is.
Coverage of the day, the complete edited set at full size, together with a gallery your families may order from directly. Albums, extra hours and a second shooter fall outside that and are added if you want them.
Sooner than feels reasonable, above all for a Saturday anywhere near the summer. One photographer can hold only one date. That date therefore belongs to whichever couple asks for it first.
