The short answer
An award winning, London based wedding photographer, Kaushik Bathia has spent more than twenty five years photographing weddings in Hackney and right across Greater London. Rather than shooting continuously and sorting later, we work in short bursts and think between them, which is why the gallery has shape instead of forty near-identical versions of the cake. Whatever your wedding looks like in Hackney, a church service, a register office, a country house, a barn or a hotel, and whatever your traditions, we photograph the whole day as it happens. Having photographed over a thousand weddings, we can usually tell within ten minutes of arriving whether the schedule will hold, and we adjust quietly rather than announcing a problem. You can add an engagement shoot, a second photographer and hand finished albums, and we are glad to travel across Greater London and beyond, so wherever your day is held it is well within reach.
Independent shops, markets and a strong arts and music scene make this east London borough a place where street texture is part of the story rather than a distraction from it. Hackney Town Hall and Shoreditch Town Hall both bring civic interiors that suit formal coverage, and both sit in streets worth stepping into between the ceremony and the meal. The Hackney Empire, a Grade II* listed Edwardian theatre, is the borough's landmark and a useful reference for anyone who wants something with period drama. Victoria Park, one of London's oldest public parks, has lakes and open lawns that give a clean, quiet counterweight after an hour of busy pavement. Hackney Central and Hackney Downs stations link everything by London Overground, and Dalston, Stoke Newington and Clapton are within a very short hop, so a portrait run rarely costs more than twenty minutes.
Serving Hackney
Hackney is a creative east London borough. Barns, country houses, hotels and garden marquees all feature in the weddings we shoot around Islington, Tower Hamlets and across Greater London. We understand how quickly a ceremony passes, so we prepare thoroughly beforehand and then let the day carry us, catching the vows as they land.
You will barely notice us at work, and that is the point; we move calmly around the day so the pictures show how it actually felt, not how it was arranged. We favour natural light and genuine expression, keeping our presence light so guests forget the camera is there and simply enjoy themselves. Our style is documentary at heart; we watch for the glances, the laughter and the quiet pauses, then let those moments become the story of your day.
We have spent many happy days behind the camera in Hackney. Hackney is a creative east London borough, and couples nearby in Hammersmith and Fulham and Haringey often bring us in for their own celebrations. Around Hackney we regularly photograph at Hackney Town Hall and Shoreditch Town Hall, among others.

What we offer
A few unhurried portraits away from the crowd, done quickly so you are soon back with your guests.
We anticipate the laughs, the tears and the first dance, keeping close to the action through the evening.
Church, civil, humanist or multi-day celebrations, we photograph the customs that matter to your two families.
Every kind of wedding
Churches usually permit photography during the service only from an agreed spot, and we confirm that with the vicar rather than assuming, since rules differ from parish to parish. We arrive early enough to photograph the empty ceremony room, because once guests are seated the flowers, the aisle and the setup you planned are effectively gone. Reactions from the front row during the vows are frequently more expressive than the vows themselves, so one camera stays trained on parents throughout that section of the service.
Long after the formal moments, guests keep giving you gifts of expression, and we stay alert through the evening for the hugs, the toasts and the goodbyes. Live music, a first look or a surprise performance should be flagged to us in advance, because surprises photograph badly when the photographer is genuinely surprised too. Bouquet tosses happen quickly and usually facing away from the light, so we set position and exposure before you count down rather than reacting once it leaves your hand.

The whole celebration
Two hours of preparation coverage is usually right; three is only worth it if both of you are getting ready in the same building and there is something happening in each room. Mirrors are the most useful object in any preparation room, giving us two angles at once, so we work around them rather than avoiding our own reflection.
Once the sun has gone, a room lit only by uplighters can still photograph beautifully, and we would rather work with that colour than bleach it out with direct flash. We resist rushing, letting each part of the day have its own moment, so the story you keep is complete rather than a run of headline scenes.
Why choose us
Long practice means the confetti moment gets the right lens on the camera beforehand, because there is no second run and swapping glass takes longer than the whole thing lasts. Awards, fellowships and years all point at the same practical promise: on a day that cannot be repeated, someone in the room has done this successfully a very large number of times.
Nothing about a longer journey changes the coverage itself; a wedding in Greater London receives the same planning, the same backup equipment and the same hours as one in London. A second photographer can join us when travel or a split-venue day calls for it, so coverage across Islington, Tower Hamlets and Greater London stays seamless.

Where we travel
From preparations at home to a reception miles away, we keep pace across Islington, Tower Hamlets and the wider Greater London without missing a moment. We are used to travelling for weddings, so reaching your venue in Greater London is straightforward, and we happily follow the day from preparations through to the evening.

Good to know
Yes, and they are yours to keep at full quality. The complete edited set lands in a private online gallery, watermark free, so you can download, share and print them however you like. Should you want something more permanent, we also make albums, framed prints and wall art finished to a high professional standard. In and around Hackney that has included Hackney Town Hall and Shoreditch Town Hall.
We edit every selected image by hand for colour, exposure and tone, keeping skin and daylight looking natural rather than heavily filtered. Our retouching stays light, clearing passing distractions and the odd blemish without ever reshaping how you actually look. If something specific concerns you, tell us early and we will make a note of it before your Hackney day.
Given a little planning ahead, we usually wrap the formal family shots inside twenty to thirty minutes, leaving the rest of your day free for guests. Keeping to the groups that truly matter helps, as an over-long list quickly eats into the celebration. Our job is to round people up kindly and keep the pace brisk and cheerful. We know Hackney well, including The Hackney Empire, a Grade II* listed Edwardian theatre.
The usual choice is full-day coverage together with a set of edited, high-resolution images and a private online gallery. You are then free to layer on a second photographer, an engagement session or a hand-finished album as you wish. We will guide you through it all and tailor the package to your celebration instead of selling a fixed bundle. Getting to Hackney is straightforward for us: Hackney Central and Hackney Downs stations link the borough via London Overground services.
In over two decades we have never once missed a wedding, yet we never treat that as a given. We belong to a trusted circle of seasoned professional photographers, so should a real emergency strike, we can bring in capable cover who shoots to our standard, and the editing of your images still comes back to us afterwards. For outdoor photographs in Hackney we often use Victoria Park, one of London's oldest public parks with lakes and open lawns.
Yes, and they are a popular choice. A pre-wedding shoot is a relaxed session, an hour or so, that lets us get to know each other and takes the strangeness out of being in front of the lens. By the day itself you feel far more settled, and you keep the images to use for save-the-dates or simply enjoy. We cover Hackney and nearby Dalston, Stoke Newington and Clapton.
Popular dates, particularly through summer and around bank holidays, can be snapped up a year or more ahead, so earlier is always the safer bet. That said, if your Hackney wedding is sooner than that, do still ask, because we sometimes have dates free at shorter notice. A quick call is the fastest way to find out.
