Off-lead ground has to be sorted out before anything else in a borough this busy. Hackney's shopping streets and market days are the wrong opening for any dog unsure of crowds, because an animal that arrives already overloaded does not calm down later, it only gets more tired. Victoria Park's open lawns are the alternative, and their scale is exactly what makes them useful: a nervous dog gets a long approach in which nothing happens, and a photograph taken twenty minutes after that walk looks nothing like one taken on arrival. Cats, house rabbits and anything that panics outdoors are photographed at home or in Northwood, where there is no traffic, no other dogs and no reason to bolt.
