Couple portraits would take twenty minutes at most, perhaps in The Mansion Gardens off Church Street, where islands in the River Mole form part of a local nature reserve. After that your guests and the walima meal come first, so we hand the time straight back. A nikah on its own, or a week that takes in the mehndi, the rukhsati and a walima at a venue such as Effingham Golf Club, where the Main Dining Room seats up to 100, can be planned as one booking. In a prayer hall we keep to the etiquette you and the imam set, with cameras lowered for recitation and shoes off wherever that is asked. Add a pre-wedding shoot, a second photographer for the baraat and walima, or a fine art album, and know that travel across Surrey and the rest of the country is arranged without fuss.
Because Leatherhead station is a junction served by both Southern and South Western Railway, a nikah here draws guests easily from London and the Surrey towns. When qubool is spoken it is often barely audible, and the reaction to it arrives on a mother's face two rows back, which is where a camera ought to be aimed already.
A walima sets the reverse difficulty: a large evening room, a raised seat, and coloured light thrown across the walls by somebody who was thinking about the dance floor. We light the couple ourselves instead of inheriting that. Mehndi, days beforehand, is close and warm and mostly hands. Rukhsati closes everything under car park lighting, and that comes down to headlights and patience rather than equipment.
