After the ardas and the final hukamnama, the hall exhales, and we photograph the congratulations breaking out along the rows as you sit as a married couple for the first time.
During the choora ceremony we photograph the red and ivory bangles being slipped on by your maternal uncle, the blessings of the family and the tears that usually arrive with them. We photograph the jago pot itself, the lit candles or lights on the decorated gagar, before it disappears into the dancing and the noise of the procession. Late in the evening the formal wear loosens, the elders go home and the dance floor becomes something else entirely, and we stay for it, since the best frames often come after eleven.
