Around the sacred fire, the seven steps of the saptapadi bind a Hindu couple together, and we photograph each vow from close enough to feel its weight. At a Hindu wedding, the pheras around the sacred fire seal the marriage, and we capture them close. For Tamil and South Indian families, the muhurtham and the tying of the thali are the sacred centre of the ceremony.

We capture the groom's arrival in procession, on a horse, in a car or on foot, surrounded by dancing family. For Muslim families the walima is a generous celebration in its own right, and we cover it as fully as the nikah that precedes it. The engagement or roka often opens the journey months ahead, and we are happy to be there from that first gathering whenever families ask.
