Mehndi holds one slow pace for hours, making patience a technique rather than a virtue. A baraat is the opposite animal, happening once and at volume, and the useful ground is a few paces in front of the dhol, moving backwards. Garba and sangeet take whatever colour the hired rig throws.
Inside the structure, order never varies and pace always does. A jaimala finishes before the second camera has turned round, so both of us take position early and neither shifts during it. Kanyadaan is a handover between parents, and the parents deserve the focus. Anything shot straight across the agni looks through the heat coming off it, so we work the mandap's corners rather than facing it down the middle. A second is all the sindoor needs, and the mangalsutra takes two, both hand sized, both wanting a long lens. Vidaai receives no direction from us.
