Esher is an affluent town in the Elmbridge district of Surrey, historically a stagecoach stop on the old London to Portsmouth road, now the A3. Esher railway station on the South West Main Line, about 14 miles from London Waterloo, served by South Western Railway. For pre-wedding and couple portraits, we love spots such as Claremont Landscape Garden, a National Trust garden with a turf amphitheatre and serpentine lake just outside Esher, with Sandown Park Racecourse, a well known horse racing venue in Esher close by for a striking backdrop.

The kanyadaan, when a father places his daughter's hand in her husband's, is quiet and full of feeling, and we frame it without ever intruding. For Sikh couples, the Anand Karaj and the four laavan in the gurdwara are the heart of the day, photographed with the calm the Guru Granth Sahib deserves. At a Gujarati mandap we know the hastamelap and the four mangal pheras, and we photograph them in the order your priest keeps rather than a generic script.

We capture the groom's arrival in procession, on a horse, in a car or on foot, surrounded by dancing family. For Muslim families the walima is a generous celebration in its own right, and we cover it as fully as the nikah that precedes it. The pre-wedding events are often where the most natural photographs come from, and we give them full attention.
