We allow an hour outdoors and expect about half of it to produce anything, which is normal and not a sign of trouble. Nobody is asked to stand and smile on command; the adults get something to do and the children get somewhere to run.
Every usable frame is edited and put in one gallery the whole family can download from, plus mono versions of anything that works better without colour. The pictures reach you inside a fortnight, not months afterwards.

We never ask children to stand still and say cheese. Instead we give them a job, racing along a path or collecting leaves, and photograph them while they do it. We keep things playful and unhurried, so after a few minutes most children stop noticing the camera.
Sessions range from maternity and newborn to cake smash, milestones and larger family gatherings with grandparents. Older children can be fitted in after school or at a weekend, although a morning slot tends to catch them in better spirits.

- Barkingside Recreation Ground, formally Queen Elizabeth II Field since a 2012 deed of trust, has a traditional playground with swings and climbing frames and a natural play area with apparatus for all abilities, including tyre swings and wobble dishes. 2
- Loxford Park play area. Loxford Park in Ilford has a play area with a huge tunnel, mounds, boulders and a nest swing for children of all abilities, an old sunken garden, a small skate park and a 30-tree edible tree trail planted in 2015. 3
- Name of the borough. Redbridge takes its name from a red-brick bridge over the River Roding, unlike the area's white stone bridges, which was demolished in 1921. 4

Mostly. We set up one arranged group frame, because that is the picture which ends up printed, and the rest of the time goes on giving the children something to do while we photograph what results. In Redbridge that normally means a route through Valentines Park rather than a single spot: the family walks, we move ahead and shoot backwards.
Pick a colour palette rather than matching outfits. Two or three colours living near each other, in middling shades, with nobody in bright white and nobody in a loud pattern. Valentines Park stays green almost the whole year, so reds and oranges fight it while blues, greys and soft greens settle in. Footwear matters more than tops, since the ground gets walked on.
Tell us as early as you are able, even on the morning itself. Teething, colds and bad nights happen, and we would always rather move the date than photograph a miserable child. We simply agree a new date with you, ideally one with a kinder forecast if the session is outdoors.
Absolutely you can. The adults are as much a part of a family session as the children, grandparents included. We start with everyone together, move on to smaller combinations, and finish with each child alone while their patience lasts.
It is a first-birthday session built around a cake. Your one-year-old is given a cake of their own, and we photograph the first poke, the mess and the grin that follows. It is easily among the most fun sessions we offer.

Green Flag is an award for upkeep rather than beauty, and with young children upkeep is the only part that counts. In practice it means surfaces that get repaired, edges kept cut back and grass that is genuinely mown, so a pushchair rolls where it would otherwise dig in, and anybody slow on rough ground covers the same route as everyone else instead of waiting by a gate. At 130 acres there is also no need to go far. We agree one entrance and work close to it, because time spent walking comes straight off the only budget that matters. Small children carry a fixed store of goodwill and they spend it early. That fixes the running order, not the light: the whole group first, then whatever combination needs everyone standing still, then the children alone once the adults have stopped watching. Anything held back until the end gets photographed with a tired child in it. Two conditions send a Redbridge family to Northwood instead. One is an infant whose day runs on feeds and not on daylight. The other is ground still holding water, since wet grass ends a session with a toddler faster than rain ever does. In both cases a warm room where nothing needs carrying and nobody gets cold is simply the better plan, and the pictures are no worse for it. Nothing about a Redbridge winter afternoon suits a two year old outdoors, and pretending otherwise wastes everybody's morning.
