Under a canopy the difficulty is structural before it is technical. Four uprights and a cloth ceiling remove everything from overhead, so whatever the hall keeps in its rig stops at the fabric and the couple sit inside their own shade. That leaves one small flame at floor height, very warm and very weak, plus whatever leaks in sideways. Flash aimed straight at the mandap flattens decoration that took a day to build, which is why the working position is at the edges, down at seated height, with exposure set on the faces and the flame allowed to burn out.
Varmala lasts about a second, frequently with both families hoisting the couple, and a repeat is not on offer. You cover it by having chosen your spot in advance, not by reacting fast. Saptapadi is the reverse difficulty: identical posture, identical background, seven times running. From one position that gives you seven near-duplicates, so between steps we shift height, cross to the other side and change lens, and the circuit is built as one photograph in seven instalments.
