We photograph the nikah with quiet care, from the imam opening the contract to the moment the couple are declared married, holding the stillness of the prayer hall exactly as it settles. Prayer beads, the Qur'an on the table and the imam's notes are photographed in the quiet minutes before the gathering settles, so the setting of your nikah is remembered as well as the act.
The mehndi thaals, decorated with candles and flowers, are carried in by the bride's friends, and we photograph the procession before it dissolves into dancing. Where an event is for women only, we agree in advance what is and is not photographed, and we do not enter. Honest boundaries are worth more than a few extra frames. Salami and gifts passed to the couple at the walima are small transactions with a lot of affection in them, and we photograph the giving as attentively as the speeches.

Sharing tea and nerves, the groom's side gathers early too, and we photograph the anticipation building before anyone sets off for the ceremony.
