Amersham is a Chilterns market town with old and new quarters. Across Buckinghamshire, including Chesham, Beaconsfield and Chalfont St Peter, we photograph the reverence and joy of every Sikh ritual. From Amersham we cover weddings right across Buckinghamshire, at gurdwaras, hotels, marquees and banqueting suites.

We take the time beforehand to understand your family's customs and the order of the maiyan, mehndi and jaggo. We arrive early for the gurdwara start, stay through the doli and keep pace with the reception. We make sure the families are in the story too, from the milni embraces to the blessings of the sangat.

From our London base we travel across Buckinghamshire for Sikh weddings, and Amersham, a Chilterns market town with old and new quarters, is a familiar destination. Amersham is a Chilterns market town split between the historic Old Amersham and the newer Amersham-on-the-Hill built up around the station. Amersham station is a shared terminus for the London Underground Metropolitan line and Chiltern Railways. For relaxed couple photographs, we like Shardeloes, the parkland and lake beside the Georgian country house on the edge of Old Amersham, and The 17th century Market Hall in Old Amersham, alongside St Mary's Church gives the day a strong sense of Amersham.

The Anand Karaj and the four laavan

At the heart of a Sikh wedding is the Anand Karaj, the blissful union performed before the Guru Granth Sahib. We are mindful of gurdwara etiquette throughout, never turning our back to the Guru Granth Sahib. Heads covered and seated on the floor with the sangat, we photograph the laavan without ever intruding.

We document the sagai and the engagement that begin the journey, when families ask us. The jaggo night is an evening of music, dancing and pots lit with candles, and we capture all of its energy. The kaleere tied to the bride's choora carry their own meaning, and we photograph the ritual with care.
