We cover the whole build-up, from the first ladoo shared at the maiyan to the morning prayers, so nothing from the early celebrations is left out. Pinning the chunni takes three people and ten minutes, and we photograph the whole negotiation rather than only the finished result, since the fussing is where the affection shows.
Midday sun outside a gurdwara is unforgiving, and we know where the shade is before the group photographs start, so nobody is squinting through the only picture with everybody in it. Inside the darbar hall we work quietly and without flash, following the kirtan and the laavan at a respectful distance from the Guru Granth Sahib.
