Sessions are short by design and led by the animal. We stop when the dog has stopped enjoying itself, which is usually well inside an hour. A long line stays clipped on for a dog whose recall is unreliable, and it is edited out afterwards.
The edited set holds both the still portrait and the running frames, because together they tell the fuller story of the dog. We keep the near eye sharp above everything else, since a dog portrait with soft eyes is a failed frame however good the light was.

…With 5 children aged between 2 and 7, the youngest of whom had just been woken up when we arrived and subsequently mainly wanted Mummy cuddles, it was very lucky for us that he was also very personable, and good at getting the little ones (and adults!) to smile/laugh naturally while looking at the camera!
I would highly recommend Northwood Hills Studio. We have been been capturing our favourite family portraits since 2004. Always great fun, yet very professional. The printed results are great and we will keep coming back.

Open meadow changes a dog session in ways a park of hedged paths does not. Sightlines run a long way, so another dog is visible two fields off instead of appearing round a corner at ten feet. For a reactive or anxious animal that is the strongest argument for this ground. Pale meadow grass in late summer is, incidentally, the best background a black dog gets all year. Dark fur separates from bleached stems in a way it never manages against woodland.

The studio at The Broadway, 21 Joel St, Northwood HA6 1NU is about 4 miles from Denham, a short car journey for a cat or rabbit in a carrier. Pet, portrait, family and headshot sittings there are booked in advance, and printing, framing, restoration and digitising are all done in the building. The studio opens Monday to Saturday from 10:30 until 18:00, and Sunday from 13:00 until 18:00.
