We start slowly with a few easy frames to help you relax, then refine angles and expressions as you warm up. Outdoors we use the lock walls, bridges and lakeside trees to frame you, and time the session for softer light. In the studio the lighting is shaped to your features.

Afterwards an online gallery lets you choose favourites calmly, with no pressure to buy. Retouching is natural, so you still look like yourself, and finished portraits come as web ready and print ready files. If you want a portrait to hold or hang, prints, frames, canvases and albums are all available to order.

Lina Z., Google review, 2026

My two sisters and I ‘ the golden girls’ had a great, hilarious photo session. Kaushik is very professional and took some amazing photos especially when we were laughing so much trying to get up from the floor. Can’t wait to see ‘air brushed’ version. Well at 75 you need a little help. Definitely recommend Kashuik. He enjoyed our craziness!

Anji K., Google review, 2026

My daughter and her fiancé went to Kaushik for their photos, and we had a wonderful experience. He is incredibly friendly, patient, and helpful. He really took his time with them and captured beautiful, professional-quality photos. We highly recommend Kaushik Photography!

Cowley landmarks and open spaces for portraits

An outdoor portrait near Cowley works best where the light is kind, the background is simple and the spot is easy to reach. Here are a few places in and around Cowley, described from published sources.

  • Uxbridge station building. The present Uxbridge station opened on 4 December 1938 to a design by Charles Holden with L. H. Bucknell and has been Grade II listed since 1983. 1
  • The Cowley Lock conservation area, designated in 1975, takes in Old Mill Lane, Cowley Lake, wet woodland, Little Britain, the Cowley bridges and Packet Boat Lane on the Grand Union Canal. 2
  • Little Britain Lake in the west of Cowley runs for about 450 metres between the River Colne and the Frays River, is roughly the shape of Great Britain and is known for less common water birds such as gadwall and great crested grebe. 3
  • Brunel Lecture Centre. Brunel's campus on Kingston Lane (UB8 3PH) was built from 1965 in a brutalist style, and its Grade II listed lecture centre was a filming location for Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange. 4

Good to know

Portrait Photographer in Cowley, FAQs

Yes. Couple portraits can be relaxed or formal. Outdoors, walking hand in hand along the towpath near Cowley Lock or standing by the water at Little Britain Lake gives natural, unforced moments. In the studio we can try closer, more intimate poses with controlled lighting. Coordinating colours helps the two of you look like a pair.

Absolutely. Plenty of people book a portrait simply for themselves, to mark a birthday, a new chapter or just to have a good picture at last. The session is all about you, with guided posing and as many outfit changes as time allows, in the studio about 6 miles from Cowley or on location nearby.

Yes. Children's portraits work best when they feel like play, so the session moves at the child's pace with breaks whenever needed. Outdoors, the open grass at Cowley Recreation Ground gives room to run between frames. In the studio, simple backgrounds keep attention on faces and expressions.

Yes. Sessions run on location within about 20 miles of the studio, and Cowley is about 6 miles away. The Cowley Lock conservation area, with its bridges, toll house and canal, and the quieter reeds of Little Britain Lake are both strong options. We will talk through light, timing and backup plans for weather.

A portrait sitting near Cowley or in the studio typically lasts one to two hours, depending on the number of outfits and setups. There is no rush, which leaves time for a new backdrop, a lighting change or simply a breather. Portfolio and personal-branding portraits tend to take a bit more time.

Serving Cowley

A portrait photographer near Cowley

Cowley, the canalside village just south of Uxbridge, is well inside the patch where we offer portrait sessions. It sits close to Uxbridge and Hillingdon, which we cover too. If you would rather sit indoors, the Northwood studio is open to Cowley clients as well.

On the Grand Union Canal, Cowley Lock keeps its listed toll house and lock-keeper's cottage, which give an outdoor portrait a towpath setting with real character. Close by at Cowley Peachey, the Slough Arm leaves the main canal, adding a second stretch of water for a portrait walk. Sitters without a car can start from Uxbridge, the Underground station nearest Cowley, at the end of the Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines. Sessions on location near Cowley can use Cowley Recreation Ground, with the Grade II listed toll house at Cowley Lock close at hand.

Portrait guides for Cowley

Journal reading to help you prepare for a portrait session from Cowley.

Cowley's best portrait backdrops are all about water. The Cowley Lock conservation area, designated in 1975, takes in the lock itself, the Grade II listed toll house and lock-keeper's cottage, Old Mill Lane, the Cowley bridges and Packet Boat Lane, and walking that stretch of the Grand Union Canal gives brickwork, painted lock gates and still water within a few hundred metres. Water acts as a giant reflector, bouncing soft light up under the chin, which flatters most faces and fills in shadows under the eyes. West of the village, Little Britain Lake runs for roughly 450 metres between the River Colne and the Frays River, part of the Colne Valley Regional Park, and its reeds and open water make a calm, natural background for a quieter portrait. Wind across open water can catch hair and loose scarves, so a calm day matters more here than sunshine. Avoid bright white tops beside the canal, as the reflected light can make them glow; mid tones and soft colours sit better against brick and greenery. Towpaths are shared, so a weekday or early start means fewer passing walkers and cyclists in the background. The studio is about 6 miles away on the Northwood Hills parade, two minutes' walk from Northwood Hills station, which sits on the Metropolitan line like Uxbridge. It is the right call when rain or cold would cut a session short.
