What fails is almost never a ceremony. It is the hour between ceremonies: the move, the change of clothes, the wait in a corridor while a room gets turned around, the stretch nobody puts on a schedule.

So we plan those gaps before anything else. Who travels with whom, where the cars are waiting, which photographer stays with the bride and which goes ahead to the next room to see what the light is doing there before anyone walks into it. Splitting only works when both ends of a booking are known, so ask each venue early how soon you can get into the room and how late you can stay in it. Guess at either and one of us is standing outside a locked door at the wrong moment.

Yes. Shoes off, heads covered, work done seated throughout. We follow the four laavan by their music rather than counting circuits, and we stay off the line the sangat holds toward the Guru Granth Sahib.

Documentary through the ceremonies, directed for portraits, properly lit come the evening. We never stage a ritual and never ask anybody to repeat one. The one stretch we take charge of is the group list.
