Shooting downwards flattens faces; shooting level hides the document. We solve it by taking two positions in sequence rather than one, and by working out beforehand which witnesses will lean in, because they will block whatever you had planned.

When the imam speaks the room goes quiet enough that a shutter becomes audible, so we stop moving and shoot sparingly. Ijab and qubool are answered in a handful of syllables; the faces around the couple carry more than the couple do at that instant, so that is where the lens points. A walima later is a different job, lit by whatever the building offers and full of movement. Rukhsati closes it, usually out of doors, and it grants no pause for a lens change.
