Somali weddings carry their own sequence of gatherings and their own music, and we ask rather than assume, because a template borrowed from another community would miss half of what matters. During the dholki the drum passes from lap to lap, and we photograph the clapping circle, the improvised verses and the women singing late into the evening. Guest arrivals at a large walima produce a stream of greetings at the door, and photographing that steadily means the album includes the hundreds who came, not only the top table.
