Relaxed portrait sessions in Ickenham

We photograph portraits across Ickenham and cover Ruislip, Hillingdon and Northolt on the same terms, either outdoors here or indoors at the Northwood studio. Most bookings are one person or a pair, along with a steady run of people who simply want a current picture of themselves and have not had one taken since somebody else's wedding.

A portrait made here is worked at a longer lens from further back than most people expect. It flattens the features less, and it renders open parkland behind you as a wash of tone rather than a catalogue of distant walkers and dogs.

Twenty-five years behind the lens

Relaxed direction, professional lighting

A sitting runs to roughly an hour. We meet at an agreed point, walk to the spot already chosen and start with easy frames while you stop noticing the camera. You see the back of the screen as we go, so nothing at the end is a surprise.

Afterwards you get a hand-edited set in a private gallery. Every frame comes twice over: a version that prints properly and a smaller one for a phone. Skin is cleared of temporary blemishes; faces are not reshaped.

Portrait Photographer in Ickenham, FAQs

We work to a fast turnaround, so you are never left waiting long. Once the session is done, we carefully edit your images and send through your gallery to choose from. Any prints, frames, canvases or albums you order then follow shortly afterwards. Getting to Ickenham is straightforward for us: served by Ickenham tube station on the Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines.

Yes, and two people is the easiest group there is. We walk into Swakeleys Park and pick a spot with a clean run of background behind you. Wear colours that sit apart from each other rather than the same shade twice, bring a layer you can put on or take off, and allow an hour. Nothing acrobatic will be asked of either of you.

You get a gallery of thoughtfully edited portraits to choose your favourites from. From there, order fine prints, framed pieces, canvases or hand-finished albums, or just take the digital files. We edit gently and naturally, so every image still looks like you at your very best. Outdoors in Ickenham we would head for Swakeleys Park.

Yes, absolutely. Beyond the digital files, we offer beautiful prints, framed portraits, canvases and hand-finished albums, all crafted to a high standard. Whether you are in Ickenham or further afield, a portrait on the wall or an album in hand lets you enjoy the images for years to come.

Allow an hour from meeting to finishing. Because everything happens on one piece of open ground in Swakeleys Park, none of that hour is spent driving between locations. The opening ten minutes are usually unusable and that is expected; people stop performing around the fifteen minute mark and the useful frames begin there. Bring a second top if you want two distinct looks.

Swakeleys Park is the ground a sitting in Ickenham is usually built around, and the useful thing about it is that it is open. Open ground has nothing overhead to filter the light and nothing at the sides to throw it back, so under a bright sky the sun arrives straight down and leaves the eye sockets dark. That single property decides the calendar here. Midsummer in the middle of the day is the worst version of it. A flat grey sky is the best, because cloud turns the whole sky into one large soft source and the shadow under the brow fills on its own. Winter is better than its reputation for exactly the reason July is difficult: the sun stays low, so it comes in at face height instead of from above, and a late morning in January can be the kindest hour of the year here. Swakeleys House offers the other kind of background. Jacobean brick is warm, dark and full of small detail, so it wants to be used from some distance with the aperture open, or the gables start competing with the face. It also settles the wardrobe question. Warm reds, rust and orange sink into that brick and vanish; mid blue, charcoal, deep green and cream separate from it cleanly. Being Grade I listed, it is not a building anyone should treat as a free backdrop, so we establish what is permitted before a session is planned around it rather than turning up and hoping.
