The short answer

Do you offer commercial and product photography in East London?

Yes. Kaushik photographs products, shopfronts, interiors, food and staff for businesses in Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Newham, Waltham Forest and Redbridge, on site at your shop, stall, workshop or office. Products that need a clean white background can be photographed at the Northwood studio instead. Prices are given on request after a short brief, and travel to your premises is quoted up front in writing before you book.

Markets

Stalls and traders at Broadway Market, Ridley Road, Hoxton and Chatsworth Road

Hackney's markets each trade on their own rhythm, and the photography has to fit it. Broadway Market, off Lansdowne Drive by London Fields, is a Saturday-only market of more than 100 stalls selling farmers' produce, street food, crafts, organic and Fairtrade goods and original clothing. Ridley Road Market in Dalston, which Hackney Council calls by far the busiest in the borough, trades six days a week, while Chatsworth Road Market in Lower Clapton is the borough's only Sunday market.

Hoxton Street Market, established in 1687, is Hackney's oldest and has been running for over 300 years. For a trader, the most useful set usually splits in two: atmosphere pictures of the stall on a busy trading day, showing customers and the full display, and clean product photographs taken on a quiet day when each item can be lit and framed properly for a website or an online marketplace.

Tower Hamlets

Petticoat Lane, Chrisp Street and Roman Road traders

Petticoat Lane Market on Middlesex Street sells fashion, textiles, leather goods and African and Asian fabrics, continuing a textile trade begun by Huguenot refugees in the 1750s. Fabric is hard to photograph well: colour has to be accurate and texture visible, so bolts and garments are photographed in even light with a colour reference, and then in use, draped or worn, to show how the cloth falls.

Chrisp Street Market in Poplar dates from Victorian times and sells fruit, vegetables, clothing and household goods alongside cafes and pie and mash shops. Roman Road Square Market, also known as Globe Town market, trades in an area established in 1800 to serve Bethnal Green's silk weavers, and some stalls have passed through traders' families for generations. A family business like that may want portraits of the people as much as pictures of the goods.

Walthamstow

Walthamstow Market, Wood Street and the restaurants of Orford Road

Walthamstow Market began in 1885 and fills most of Walthamstow High Street for about two-thirds of a mile, making it the second longest street market in Europe. Wood Street Indoor Market, opened in 1955 in the former Crown Cinema building, has 36 small independent shops along a horseshoe corridor. Small units like these need tight, well-planned interior shots that make the space read clearly online.

Orford Road, the historic route to St Mary's Church in Walthamstow Village, has its own conservation area and has become a street of restaurants, cafes and pubs, which means menu and food photography, interiors and pictures of the people who cook and serve. At Blackhorse Lane, a Mayor of London Creative Enterprise Zone with around 180 creative businesses, and at Blackhorse Workshop on Sutherland Road Path, makers need product pictures and process shots taken at the bench.

Newham

Green Street, Queen's Market and Westfield Stratford City

Green Street, running from Romford Road to Barking Road near Upton Park station, is a regional shopping street for South Asian fashion, jewellery, fabrics and food. Jewellery and bridalwear are among the most demanding things to photograph: metal and stones reflect everything around them, and embroidery needs angled light to show its depth. Pieces are photographed one at a time in controlled light, then on a model or mannequin to show scale and drape.

Queen's Market, beside Green Street and Upton Park station, is a publicly owned market whose traders moved into Queen's Road in 1904, and it trades four days a week plus a Sunday second-hand market. At the other end of the scale, Westfield Stratford City has about 280 stores and 70 restaurants in 1.91 million sq ft of retail space beside the Olympic Park, where shop interiors and staff photographs need to be planned around trading hours and centre rules.

Offices and industry

Canary Wharf, Here East and Hainault Business Park

For office-based firms, commercial photography means brand and lifestyle pictures: people at work, meetings, the reception and the building. Canary Wharf holds the headquarters of more than 150 major businesses, and Here East's 1.2 million sq ft campus houses UCL, Loughborough University London and the Plexal innovation hub for start-ups. A brand shoot there can be combined with team headshots on the same visit, which the headshots in East London page explains.

Further out, Hainault Business Park is an industrial area of around 200 businesses, from large international firms to small ones, with a Business Improvement District since 2006. Manufacturing and trade businesses there may need the process as well as the product: machines running, people at work, finished goods leaving the loading bay. Ilford's Business Improvement District, formed in 2009, links over 70 businesses through its radio security scheme, and Gants Hill and South Woodford have their own independent traders.

How it works

From brief to finished files for an East London business

Tell us the type of shoot, roughly how many images you need and your deadline, and we confirm the approach, the location and a clear written quote before anything is booked. The shoot is planned around your opening hours or your working day, and you receive edited, correctly cropped files ready for your website, social channels and print. Travel from Northwood to your East London premises appears in that quote as its own line.

Outdoor brand shoots need one more check in East London. The City of London Corporation requires a licence for commercial filming or photography in Epping Forest, which includes Wanstead Flats, so a shoot there needs that licence before it goes ahead. The commercial photography page compares product, brand, food and event work, and the borough pages add local detail: Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Newham, Waltham Forest and Redbridge.

Planning

Planning around East London

01

Market-day timing

Broadway Market trades only on Saturdays and Chatsworth Road only on Sundays, so stall atmosphere shots are booked for trading day and product shots for a quiet weekday.

02

Jewellery on Green Street

Reflective gold and stones need controlled light and patience, so jewellery for a Green Street business is photographed piece by piece before any styled or modelled pictures.

03

Food on Orford Road

For a Walthamstow Village restaurant, dishes are photographed as they leave the pass, with the dining room and the team in the same visit for the website and delivery listings.

04

Licence on Wanstead Flats

The City of London Corporation requires a licence for commercial photography in Epping Forest, including Wanstead Flats, so an outdoor brand shoot there starts with that permission.

05

Staff in the same visit

Headshots of the owner and staff can be taken during a product or premises shoot, so the About page matches the rest of the website.

Where East London does business

These markets, high streets and business districts show where East London trades, each linked to the council or operator that describes it.

  • Royal Docks: The Royal Albert, Royal Victoria and King George V Docks, completed between 1855 and 1921, were the largest enclosed docks in the world until closing to commercial traffic in 1981, and now host ExCeL, London City Airport and the University of East London. 1
  • Ilford town centre: Ilford is identified as a metropolitan centre in the London Plan, with The Exchange as its main shopping centre and Elizabeth line trains from Ilford station. 2
  • Here East: Here East, the former 2012 Olympic Media Centre on the Hackney edge of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, was reinvented in 2014 as a 1.2 million sq ft campus housing UCL, Loughborough University London and the Plexal innovation hub for start-ups. 3
  • Hackney Downs Studios: Hackney Downs Studios on Amhurst Terrace occupies a former print works between Dalston, Clapton and Stoke Newington, with more than 200 workspaces including coworking areas, private studios and workshops around a public courtyard. 4
  • Blackhorse Collective Creative Enterprise Zone: Blackhorse Lane, designated a Mayor of London Creative Enterprise Zone in 2021 and reaccredited in January 2026 through to 2028, is home to around 180 creative businesses under the name Blackhorse Collective. 5

Good to know

Commercial photography in East London: questions answered

Yes. Broadway Market trades only on Saturdays, so atmosphere pictures of the stall, the customers and the full display are taken on a trading day. Clean product photographs for your website or an online shop are better on a quieter day, at your workshop, kitchen or home.

Yes. Jewellery is photographed one piece at a time in controlled light to keep the metal and stones clean, and bridalwear is photographed flat for detail and then on a mannequin or model to show the drape. Embroidery and beadwork need angled light, which is planned into the shoot.

Only with a licence. The City of London Corporation requires one for any commercial filming or photography in Epping Forest, and Wanstead Flats is part of it. If the Flats suit your brand, mention it at the brief stage so the licence can be arranged before a date is fixed.

Yes. Restaurant work covers the dishes, the drinks, the dining room and the people who cook and serve, ready for your website, social media and delivery listings. Sessions are usually planned before service, when the kitchen can plate dishes for the camera without customers waiting.

Yes. A maker can use three things: clean product shots, pictures of the process at the bench, and a portrait of the maker. All three can happen in one visit to a workshop or studio unit, so the website and any stockist materials share one consistent look.

Commercial prices are given on request by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383, once we know the type of shoot, the number of images and the deadline. Travel from Northwood to your premises is written into the quote, so you see the full figure before you book.

Shop interiors and staff photographs inside a large shopping centre depend on the centre's own rules, so check them with centre management before booking. The shoot is then planned around your trading hours, often first thing before the doors open.

Every session is photographed by Kaushik Bathia himself, FBIPP and FMPA, holder of five European Kodak Gold Awards, who opened the Northwood studio in 2001.
