The short answer

Can a photographer come to our office in Essex for corporate headshots?

Yes. Kaushik brings lighting and a backdrop to your office anywhere in Essex, whether that is in Chelmsford, Harlow, Basildon or Colchester, and photographs staff one after another in a meeting room. Everyone gets the same light and background, so the team page looks consistent. Individuals can book a headshot at the Northwood studio instead. For an Essex office, travel from Northwood is quoted up front and written into the quote before the day is fixed.

Our usual session area is within about 20 miles of the studio. Further out in Essex, sessions are by arrangement, with travel quoted in writing before you book.

…I needed some photos done for my acting career and Kaushik came highly recommended. It was helpful to know he is very experienced in taking photos for this purpose and kindly advised me on what outfits to wear to produce the best photos. Kaushik was very patient, helpful and professional which made it very easy to feel relaxed and comfortable during the shoot.

In the office

Running a headshot day in an Essex office

A team headshot day needs very little from you: a meeting room or a quiet corner about the size of a parking space, a power socket and a list of names. Kaushik sets up a portable studio with lights and a backdrop, then staff come in one at a time. Slots are spaced through the day, so it fits around meetings and phone calls rather than stopping them.

The advantage is consistency. Because the light, the background and the framing stay the same all day, a new starter photographed in the spring can be matched to the rest of the team months later. That matters for a website team page, a brochure or a set of LinkedIn profiles, where one odd photograph stands out. See corporate headshots for how larger groups are scheduled.

Where Essex works

Essex towns and their working centres

Essex business is spread across the county rather than gathered in one centre. Chelmsford, the county town and a city since 2012, is home to County Hall on Market Road, where Essex County Council has its main office. Harlow, designated a new town in 1947, was built with industrial areas and a new town centre mostly west and south of Old Harlow, and Basildon, a new town from 1949, has its borough council at the Basildon Centre in St Martin's Square.

In Loughton, the Debden industrial estate holds the former Bank of England printing works, taken over by De La Rue in 1993. Brentwood sits just outside the M25 and is served by the Elizabeth line, while Southend-on-Sea and Colchester, each a city since 2022, anchor the south-east and north-east of the county. Wherever your office is, the setup is the same; only the drive from Northwood changes.

Distance

How far each part of Essex is from the studio

The western towns are closest. Loughton is about 20 miles from Northwood Hills, Chigwell about 21, Epping about 23 and Harlow about 25. Brentwood is about 31 miles, Grays about 33, Billericay about 36, Basildon about 37 and Chelmsford about 39. Southend-on-Sea is about 48 miles away and Colchester about 57, so an office day there is planned with an early start.

Travel from Northwood is set out in your written quote alongside the headshot price, which is given by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383. For a larger team the travel is a small part of the overall cost per person; for one or two people, a visit to the studio is often the more sensible option.

For one person

LinkedIn and individual headshots at the studio

Freelancers, consultants, job seekers and anyone updating a LinkedIn profile can book a single headshot session at 21 Joel Street, Northwood Hills. The studio is two minutes from Northwood Hills station on the Metropolitan line, with plain backdrops and controlled lighting. A single sitting takes around 20 to 30 minutes. You can try a jacket and an open-necked shirt, glasses on and off, and see the results on screen as you go.

If you prefer something less formal than a plain backdrop, a headshot can also be taken outside your own premises or on a high street with character, such as Epping's conservation area, lined with listed buildings that are mostly 18th century. For a wider set of brand photographs, combine it with a session from the Essex portrait page or the Essex commercial photography page.

Preparation

Getting the team ready

Send round a short note a few days before. Plain, solid colours photograph better than tight stripes or small checks, which can shimmer on screen. Ask people to bring a spare top in case of a coffee spill, and to keep jewellery simple. If your company has a dress code for the website, share it with Kaushik in advance so everyone is photographed the same way.

Book a timetable in short slots, with a few spare at the end for anyone who was on a call. Staff working from home on the day can come to the Northwood studio later and be matched to the same background. The Essex overview lists the other services that can be arranged on the same visit, such as event coverage for an office party.

Planning

Planning around Essex

01

Room the size of a parking space

A cleared corner of a meeting room is enough for a portable studio with lights and a backdrop. Kaushik needs a power socket nearby.

02

Schedule short slots

A list of names in short slots keeps the day moving. Leave a few gaps at the end for anyone held up in a meeting.

03

Match absent staff later

Anyone away on the day can visit the Northwood studio and be photographed against the same background, so the team page still matches.

04

Plain colours, simple jewellery

Solid colours photograph well. Tight stripes and small checks can shimmer, and bold logos pull the eye away from the face.

Business areas in Essex

Essex town centres and high streets where much of the county's working life is based.

  • Loughton and Debden stations: Loughton parish has two Central line stations, Loughton and Debden; Loughton station opened in 1856 and the line became part of the Central line in 1948. 2
  • Chigwell station: Chigwell station on Station Road (IG7 6NT) is a Zone 4 stop on the Central line. 3
  • Basildon station: Basildon station on Station Way (SS16 5XY) is a c2c station between Laindon and Pitsea with trains to London Fenchurch Street in about 45 minutes and step-free platform access by lift. 4
  • Chelmsford station: Chelmsford station on Duke Street (CM1 1HT) is operated by Greater Anglia, with services on the Great Eastern Main Line to London Liverpool Street. 5

Good to know

Headshots in Essex: questions answered

Kaushik travels to offices anywhere in Essex. Harlow and Epping are about 23 to 25 miles from the studio, Chelmsford about 39 and Colchester about 57. The travel to your office is set out in writing with the headshot price, before anything is booked.

For an Essex office or a single studio sitting, the headshot price is given on request by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383. The figure depends on the number of people and whether the session is in your office or at the studio, and travel appears as its own line.

That depends on the length of the slots you choose and how quickly people arrive from their desks. Tell us the size of the team and the hours the meeting room is free, and Kaushik will suggest a timetable for your Essex office.

Yes. Individuals usually book the Northwood studio, two minutes from Northwood Hills station. It avoids a travel cost and gives you a plain backdrop and controlled lighting, with time to try more than one outfit.

No. A cleared area roughly the size of a parking space in a meeting room or quiet corner is enough, with a power socket close by. Kaushik brings the lights, stands and backdrop.

Yes, if Kaushik took the original set. A new member of staff can be photographed later, at your office or at the studio, against a matching background.

Yes. A high street, a courtyard or the front of your building can work for a less formal look. Epping Forest is the exception to plan around: the City of London Corporation requires a licence for photography there, so a street or courtyard near your office is usually simpler.

Every session is photographed by Kaushik Bathia himself, FBIPP and FMPA, holder of five European Kodak Gold Awards, who opened the Northwood studio in 2001.
