For Bexley

Portraits made to flatter in Bexley

The plan is an unhurried hour. We open at whichever background is nearest and work outwards, which keeps the walking down, and the opening frames exist only to get the self-consciousness over with. They form no part of what comes back.

You get an edited take in colour, monochrome applied to whichever frames carry it, at a resolution for paper and a second one for screens. A single frame is cut square as well, that being the shape a profile picture asks for.

Local and experienced

The right portrait photographer for Bexley

Actors are directed differently from everybody else. Instead of a smile you are given a thought to hold, because casting reads the eyes long before it reads the mouth. Older sitters are lit a little flatter and from slightly higher, softening the line of the jaw without smoothing away a face somebody has spent a lifetime earning.

Graduation portraits can include the gown alone, the gown with family, and one frame without it, because the person underneath the robes is worth photographing too. Makeup can be a little heavier than you would wear to work, because a camera flattens it, but nothing should be tried for the first time that morning.

Good to know

Portrait Photographer in Bexley, FAQs

Our room sits at The Broadway, 21 Joel St, Northwood HA6, which is a considerable distance away from Bexley. Most sittings arranged from here happen locally instead, generally at Danson Park in Welling, and everything required comes along with us. The Northwood room repays the journey when you want a background you control and a date the weather cannot move, and it is there whenever you would rather use it.

Yes, gladly. A solo portrait session, in the studio or around Bexley, is entirely focused on you. With gentle, unhurried direction, we help you look relaxed and flattering. Whether it is for a branding profile, a gift for someone, or simply for yourself, we make the time worthwhile.

Nearly everybody says so, and a public park sharpens it at the start, because people do walk past. What helps is a task to get on with rather than an instruction to relax. The opening stretch is a walk along the water, conversation going, camera up but not aimed at you, and things to look at that are not us. Those frames are practice and they are how you get past it.

Yes. Alongside your digital images from your Bexley sitting, we offer fine prints, framed portraits, canvases and hand-finished albums, all made to a high standard. A framed portrait on the wall, or an album in your hands, is a lovely way to enjoy the images for years.

Footwear that can cross wet grass, since the lawns hold damp long after a path looks dry, plus a second top of a noticeably different shade so we are not locked into one look. Arrive a few minutes early rather than exactly on time, because a sitting that starts with somebody catching their breath shows it. Say beforehand if you want Danson House behind you, as the frontage only works square on and that decides where we begin.

Danson Park in Welling holds a whole sitting because it offers three unrelated backgrounds inside one short walk: open lawn, the water, and the frontage of Danson House. The house sets the strictest rule of the three. It is Palladian, so it is symmetrical about its centre, and a figure standing anywhere between dead centre and hard against one end makes the building look tipped over. Choose one position or choose the other; the frame then settles. Grade I listed stone stays a steady grey through the afternoon, whereas standing in close on the lawns under a bright sky puts a faint green up into the skin. The boating lake pays its way for a duller reason than anybody expects. With water behind a sitter the nearest solid object is the far bank, which is a long way back, so it renders soft and the person lifts away from a park that is otherwise full of detail. The lake also draws a dead flat line across the frame at a fixed height, and anything not squared to that line looks as though it is sliding, so a standing portrait taken against the water gets levelled properly instead of by eye. Bexley being a settled suburban borough, most sittings are a few minutes from the sitter's own front door, which matters more in practice than it does on paper. A change of clothes can be fetched, the hour can sit either side of something else, and nobody turns up already tired from the journey to get here.

How it works

On-location photography in Bexley

We travel to Bexley rather than asking you to travel to us. On-location coverage suits weddings, corporate events, team headshots and product shoots, and we bring whatever lighting the space needs. The Northwood studio is available too if you prefer it.
